Romania Tourism Explores the Ceausescu Trail

The Romania tourism chiefs are planning on organizing tours to promote their past history of dictatorship. There is talk among the Romania tourism industry of visitors getting a chance to view the places related to their former communist dictator, Nicolae Ceausescu.
Elena Udrea, the Romania tourism minister has already confirmed that a 'red circuit' following the trail of communism and dictatorship in Romania will be established as a package on the Romania tourism plans. The trail is likely to cover the native village of Ceausescu, Scornicesti and the Doftana prison where he was held between 1936 and 1938 for subversive activities. The trail will also offer the balcony of the Communist Party headquarters which was the last place that Ceausescu ever gave a speech before getting ousted from power. The military barracks in Targoviste where he was executed on December 25, 1989 with his wife.
According to Udrea, the Romania tourism industry will try and market these places since the western tourists are very interested in the history related to Ceausescu.
